WCS is an urban school district with 14 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin August 13 and end May 28. Westside Community Schools (District 66) has operated Westside High School on a modular scheduling system since 1967, a university-style format where class periods are built from 20- or 40-minute 'mods' that give students open time for independent study. This calendar includes 5 professional development days, 4 early-release or half days — useful to know when planning childcare.
