HUFSD is a suburban school district with 9 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin September 2 and end June 25. Hicksville High School, which opened in 1953, has produced notable alumni including actress Lorraine Bracco and serves students from several Nassau County communities beyond Hicksville itself. The district has said a complete 2026-2027 calendar — including early dismissal dates and teacher workdays — will be published soon. The calendar also notes several religious observances (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Diwali, Lunar New Year, Eid al-Fitr, Easter, Passover, Eid-ul-Adha) for awareness — school stays in session on these days.
