NHCS is an urban school district with 43 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin August 24 and end June 4. New Hanover County Schools runs more than one calendar program (Traditional Schools, Year-Round Schools, Restart Year-Round Schools (Freeman and Snipes), Isaac Bear Early College High School, Wilmington Early College High School & Southeast Area Technical High School, and Pre-K Traditional Schools) -- this page covers the Traditional Schools calendar; other programs follow a different schedule. Calendar dates are confirmed for part of the year; the rest of the 2026-2027 calendar isn't available yet — check back soon. This calendar includes 1 professional development day, 1 early-release or half day — useful to know when planning childcare.
