OCS is a suburban school district with 13 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin August 24 and end June 9. Orange County Schools is headquartered at 200 E. King Street in Hillsborough, NC, and serves the community under the NC General Assembly mandate that all public schools start no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 — an exception applies to year-round schools, which may start earlier. Orange County Schools runs more than one calendar program (Traditional calendar schools and Year-Round Elementary School) -- this page covers the Traditional calendar schools calendar; other programs follow a different schedule. This calendar includes 1 early-release or half day — useful to know when planning childcare.
