GCSD is a rural school district with 19 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin August 3 and end May 28. Georgetown County School District serves a coastal South Carolina county that includes the historic port city of Georgetown, one of the oldest cities in the state, and the Waccamaw Neck area along the Grand Strand. This district follows a modified calendar for the 2026-2027 year, which starts and ends on a different schedule than a traditional calendar. The calendar sets aside 3 additional days (October 12–February 19) that may be used as weather makeup days if needed. This calendar includes 6 early-release or half days — useful to know when planning childcare.
