GWD is a local school district with 13 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin July 22 and end May 27. Greenwood School District 50 is the largest of three school districts in Greenwood County, serving over 9,000 students across 16 sites. This district follows a modified calendar for the 2026-2027 year, which starts and ends on a different schedule than a traditional calendar. The district has said a complete 2026-2027 calendar — including early dismissal dates — will be published soon. The last day of school is weather-contingent, ranging from January 4 to May 28 depending on how many built-in weather makeup days are used.
