LSD is a rural school district with 9 schools. The first day of school is August 4. Laurens District 55 High School, known as the Raiders, was formed in 1972 when five separate high schools — Hickory Tavern, Sanders, Gray Court-Owings, Ford, and Laurens — were consolidated into a single school. This district follows a modified calendar for the 2026-2027 year, which starts and ends on a different schedule than a traditional calendar. The calendar sets aside 2 additional days (November 23–April 26) that may be used as weather makeup days if needed. This calendar includes 6 professional development days, 7 early-release or half days — useful to know when planning childcare.
