SSD is a rural school district with 14 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin August 6 and end May 28. This district follows a modified calendar for the 2026-2027 year, which starts and ends on a different schedule than a traditional calendar. The calendar sets aside 3 additional days (October 15–June 1) that may be used as weather makeup days if needed.
