YSD is a rural school district with 9 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin August 3 and end May 27. York School District One uses a 'Modified Balanced Academic Calendar' that splits the school year into two equal 90-day semesters with intersession breaks built into October and February. This district follows a modified calendar for the 2026-2027 year, which starts and ends on a different schedule than a traditional calendar. The calendar sets aside 5 additional days (September 7–March 26) that may be used as weather makeup days if needed. This calendar includes 5 professional development days, 10 early-release or half days — useful to know when planning childcare.
