HISD is a rural school district with 14 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin August 12 and end May 26. Hutto ISD's mascot is the Hippo — one of only a handful of school districts in the US with this unusual mascot — and the district brands itself 'Hippo Nation,' reflected in its official website domain hipponation.org. This calendar includes 5 early-release or half days — useful to know when planning childcare.
