BCPS is a rural school district with 22 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin August 19 and end May 28. Bedford County Public Schools builds its calendar around 990 instructional hours — above Virginia's state minimum — giving the district a buffer so the first five snow days never require make-up. This calendar includes 4 professional development days — useful to know when planning childcare.
