MCS is a local school district with 21 schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, classes begin August 12 and end December 18. Marion County Schools serves the Fairmont, WV area and is governed by the Marion County Board of Education (mcbe.net), which has operated county-wide public schools in north-central West Virginia for well over a century. The calendar sets aside 2 additional days (February 15–April 30) that may be used as weather makeup days if needed. This calendar includes 7 professional development days, 6 early-release or half days — useful to know when planning childcare.
